I was also in the NCCC NA Sprint Practices on Thursday and Friday, but
forgot to bring those claimed scores into the office today. Thursday
was a bit better than Friday due to the RTTY competition on Friday and
20M was open at the beginning on Thursday, but almost closed Friday (I
did work a very weak W0BH in KS).
Many thanks to Jeff, KU8E, who climbed my tower on Saturday afternoon
and put my 80M inverted vee back up. I seem to have damaged my big MFJ
antenna tuner and the zepp seems to be very doubtful as an alternate
antenna at the time, especially on 80M. I should be back to my old t
vertical using the 80M inverted vee on 160 if that part of the tuner
will still work.
Please give us a call from Bonaire. Jeff and I should be QRV as
PJ4/K4BAI and PJ4/KU8E from late afternoon tomorrow Feb. 13 through
perhaps early morning Tuesday Feb. 20. Mostly CW. All bands 160
through 10 and maybe 6. During the ARRL DX CW Contest next weekend, I
will be PJ4A all bands single op high power and Jeff will be PJ4/KU8E
single op 160 meters single band. I expect that PJ4/PA0VDV and
PJ4/G4IUF will also be QRV some in the contest. So, along with PJ2T,
there should be plenty of activity from Netherlands Antilles.
This week's contests:
1. Tuesday (Wednesday UTC): February NAQCC QRP Sprint. 0130-0330Z.
80, 40, 20M CW. QRP. Exchange: RST + SPC + NAQCC# or powerW. Double
your score for using a hand key and 1 1/2 score for a bug. Maybe I'll
take a hand key to Bonaire! Log deadline is Feb. 20. Suggested
frequencies: 3555-3565 (avoid FISTS on 3558), 7039-7050, 14059-14065.
2. Tuesday (Wednesday UTC): February SKCC Sprint. Use manual keys,
hand keys or bugs or sideswipers. Exchange: Name, SKCC# and SPC or
powerW. 01-03Z. 160-20M. Suggested frequencies (+ - 10 khz): 1820,
3530, 3550, 7055, 7120, 14048. Logs due electronically by Friday.
3. NCCC NS Practice. This is what I assume from the web site. Actual
announcement late in the week may change. 0330-0400Z Fri (Thursday
local). 100 watts or less. NA sprint rules (both calls, # name SPC),
one khz. QSY rule. Dupes permitted after one intervening QSO. Mults
count per band.
4. ARRL DX Contest, CW. 48 hours of the weekend UTC. Work only DX,
including KH6 and KL7. Exchange: RST + state/province and receive RST
+ power. 160-10M.
That's it for now. If the trip and rig setup goes OK, I'll be looking
for you all beginning late Tuesday afternoon. When I am in the shack at
net time for the GSN on 3560 khz at 00 and 03Z, I will QNI the net other
than actually during the contest. Feel free to QNI and ask for a QSO
off frequency or after the net. Greg, K4NO, will also be QRV during the
coming week and in ARRL DX CW from Belize as V31KO. Mark, K0EJ, is also
headed somewhere in the Caribbean and I have forgotten where.
73,
John, K4BAI/PJ4A.
