Howdy all SECCers. I hope the RTTY and Sprint-CW hangovers are not too
bad. ARRL CW is next weekend - many of us are traveling and I hope
everyone will be QRV from home if not on the road.
Below is an invite I just received for any of our club members to
volunteer to do a presentation at the Huntsville Hamfest, which is
August 18 and 19, 2007.

Anyone interested, please email me or email direct to Tim with a copy to
me so I can keep track of the club's response.

Subject: 2007 ARRL National Convention Huntsville, Alabama - contest
forum
Hey Hal;
In early December of 2006 the Huntsville Hamfest Committee approached
our newly formed Alabama Contest Group in regards to
sponsoring/organizing a contest forum during the 2007 ARRL National
Convention to be held in conjunction with the Huntsville Hamfest. After
discussing among our officers and membership, we have decided to assume
this task. Our main goal is to involve the contest groups and clubs in
the Southeast in order to provide an outstanding informative program. At
the present time I have been given no time constraints during the two
day event though we realize this constraint will be forth coming .
The ACG hopes to draw on the membership of the ACG, SECC, FCG and
TCG for dynamic and informative presentations. You know your membership,
and I am assured you have had presentations by your membership at a
meeting or hamfest in the past. So what I am asking of your
organization is to poll your membership in an attempt to identify any
member that has material he or she would like to present at this event.
Currently there has been no theme as such set for the convention from
either the convention committee or the ARRL so any and all topics will
be currently entertained. The reality of this situation is to
responsibly provide a diverse program in an attempt to engage all
interest in contesting and stimulate new interest in our beloved niche
in amateur radio. This is truly an opportunity to showcase our interest,
diversity and devotion to the hobby here in the Southeast region.
This event would also give the contest community of the Southeast an
opportunity to gather and fraternize. I can visualize this as a
Southeast regional contest convention similar to the Southeast VHF
conferences. The location will make it easier and less expensive for
contesters in the region to attend. I am well aware there may be some
Dayton Hamvention (May to Aug) hangover but not all the contest
community in the region are able to attend that prestigious event. The
attendance is projected to be about double that of the proceeding few
years due to the ARRL National Convention. The facility is outstanding (
Von Braun Center) and the local Huntsville area is a mix of Southern
hospitality and high tech industry influences.
Thanks for any effort you or your organization expend in support of this
endeavor. I feel it's imperative to our niche in this hobby to provide a
solid program for this event. All the organizations that get involved
will surely benefit from there efforts. I maybe contacted at anytime
via telephone or email as listed below.
