This last posting vividly illustrates the difference bewtween just
searching and pouncing and calling CQ in a contest. Paul called CQ YV
Contest and made 579 QSOs. I bet he made more than anybody in the
contest outside YV! Sorry I didn't realize Paul, N4PN, was in the YV
contest when I heard him on 20 SSB over the weekend. I tried to say
hello, but was beat out by a station with better skip to him and I
should have tried harder to get one more YV contest QSO. I worked the
only two stations I heard actually working the contest, YL2PQ and 4M5DX.
This coming weekend will bring us the IARU and several other contests.
Thursday night 0230 to 0300Z is again the NCCC NA CW Sprint. I'm
working on winning a bottle of wine for the highest scores east of the
Mississippi. The IARU is 12Z Sat to 12Z Sun. I will be SOABHP, SO2R,
in the General Class bands, probably Mixed Modes. Conditions will
probably be much worse than last year and other US contacts will be more
important, since DX may be rare. I'll appreciate any QSOs and will be
glad to QSY to other bands/modes if the rate is slow. Exchange is RS(T)
plus ITU Zone or HQ station abbreviation. The FISTS CW Club Summer
Sprint is Saturday 17 t 21Z. Exchange is Name, RST, SPC, and FISTS
Members # or power output. The QRPARCI Summer "Home Brew" CW Sprint is
Sun 20 to 24Z. This is a fun QRP CW Sprint. Exchange is RST + SPC +
QRPARCI # or power output. Note that there is an error in the WA7BNM
page this week. WB5KHC no longer gets the logs for QRPARCI contests;
they now go to VA3JFF. Electronic submission to: contest at qrparci.org.
Mailing address is on the QRPARCI homepage.
Hope everyone has a good week and weekend and makes a lot of QSOs and
has a lot of fun.
73,
John, K4BAI.
