[SECC] SECC Discussion

This is not the first year I have read with interest the various views of
what or how the club should be. My sense is, after reading the comments this
year, that there are basically two schools of thought. AA4GA, a founding
member of the club and a fine contester, wants a contest club that contests
and gives a place to post scores. He does not favor social events or
"political B.S." of more traditional clubs. KU8E, a stalwart member of the
club who does extra work with no thanks and is a major scorer in contests,
wants more social activity and would like to increase face to face events.
I have read the by-laws, though not as thoroughly as Ed, K4SB (Just
kidding my friend). I see no reason why the two schools of thought on how
the club should be operated can't coexist and be done without changing one
single thing about the club..
Those who want more of a social setting can have all of this they want.
Simply get on the Reflector and say "Lets Party" or "Lets get together for
lunch." Those who want to participate can then post their acceptance. But,
there is no law that all club members are then required to party down or eat
lunch with the bunch.
For those who only want an operating club and a place to post scores, we
have that in place right here and it in fact is already being done.
I assume we all have radios and computers. If we need to hold a meeting
the Reflector and/or our radios would be a fine and painless way to do it.
This discussion taking place yesterday and today is the most activity I
have seen on this reflector in two or three years. Without casting the first
stone, I have been puzzled after major contests to find I had to go to 3830
to find the scores of most SECC members. Eventually, some days later, they
will post to our reflector. Consider posting here first. Our reflector, our
radios and operating in teams can go a long way toward fostering good will
and camaraderie among members.
One last thought: John, K4BAI, Bill, AA4LR, and Jeff, KU8E, seem to be
carrying all the water right now as far as being the glue to keeping the
club together. They could use some help, especially from the president and
other officers and members. I will help if someone will find something I
can do. I expect many other silent club members would be willing to help if
asked.
73, Archie, K4GA
