Hello all:

A lot of minor contests this weekend, one very popular state QSO party,
a very popular international DX contest (Russian), and what I think is a
very popular RTTY contest this weekend.

Here is a summary of the contests, in the order of their starting times:

1. 10-10 Mobile Contest. 0001 to 2359 UTC Sat Mar 20. (Apparently
intended to be 24 hours, but is really only 23 hours, 59 minutes.)
Exchange: Name + SPC +10-10 membership number (or "zero" for non
members) plus county. Mobiles of any kind actually capable of operation
in motion may work anybody. Everybody else works mobiles only. Quiet
no contest zone from 28490 to 28510. Multipliers are "counties" in US,
Canada, and UK. http://www.ten-ten.org/rules.html.

2. BARTG Spring RTTY Contest. 02 UT Sat to 02 UTC Mon (48 hours). 80
- 10 meters. Exchange: RST + serial # + 4 digit UTC time. (Sorry that
I don't understand the purpose of sending the time. I guess it means
that someone who has his computer time set wrong will find out very
quickly. Other than that, isn't it just a waste of time and
electricity? I guess most would say the RST is the same waste.)

3. Russian DX Contest. 12 UTC Sat to 12 UTC Sun. Either CW or SSB or
Mixed Mode. 160 through 10 M. Single band participants may participate
on two different single bands if they desire. Any entrant can use
Packet. No self spotting. There is no ten minute QSY rule for single
ops. Exchange: RS(T) plus QSO number. Russian stations send RS(T)
plus two letter abbreviation for Oblast. A list of Oblasts is on the
website. Everyone may work everyone else for points and multipliers.
Multipliers are oblasts and countries per band (not per mode and band).
No mult for /MM stations but they count for points. High-scoring logs
must be submitted electronically. They suggest a number of logging
programs including using CQWW for CT (for single mode entries only). In
the zone box, type the call area of the Russian station worked plus the
two letter abbreviation. Example: A Russian station in the St.
Petersburg oblast such as RU1A would send "SP." He would be logged as
"1SP." Apparently the number will allow the letters to be accepted in
CT and they can strip off the numbers to check the logs. I did this
last year and it worked OK. http:www.rdxc.org/rules.asp.

4. CLARA (Canadian Ladies Amateur Radio Association) Contest. 17 UTC
Sat to 17 UTC Sun. Appears everyone can work everyone. More points for
QSOS with CLARA members and their family members. 80 - 10 M CW and Ph,
once per band and mode. Cross mode QSOs count as a phone QSO for both
stations. Suggested frequencies: 3688 (CW), 3750, 3900, 7033, 7200,
14033, 14285, 21033, 21225, 28300. Note that two of the frequencies are
right on our band edges and some are out of the General or Advanced
class bands. I didn't list the SSB frequencies completely outside the
US phone bands. I assume a good 10M CW frequency would be 28033, but
there isn't one listed. I guess it is good to know about this so you
can give a QSO to a Canadian YL if you hear one. Sort of like last
weekend in the YLISSB QSO Party when I was able to give a QSO to two
stations calling CQ in that contest. http://www.qsl.net/clara/contest.html.

5. Virginia QSO Party. 18 UTC Sat - 02 UTC Mon. QSOs per band and
mode. Packet permitted; no self-spotting. Exchange QSO # and S/P/C or
Virginia County or Virginia Independent City. Any non-WARC band may be
used. Suggested frequencies: 1805, 1845, 3550, 3860, 7050, 7260,
14050, 14270, 21050, 21370, 28050, 28370. No cross mode or repeater
QSOs. Lots of awards.

6. 9K 15 M Contest. 12 to 16 UTC Sunday Mar 21. Want a change to work
a lot of Kuwait stations (band conditions permitting)? Either CW or SSB
(not mixed). 15 M only. 21000 to 21110 CW. 21150 (below US band
edge) to 21440 SSB. Exchange RS(T) plus serial number. 9KCC Award for
working 10 different 9K sations durign teh contest. Cost is $5.00.

7. QRP Homebrewer Sprint Spring Contest. 00 to 04 UTC Monday (Sunday
night local). Cw and PSK31 (each mode considered as a separate band).
Exchange: RST, SPC, Power output. Extra points for using homebrew
equipment including kits, but everyone may participate. Power
multipliers for anyone using under 4 watts in steps. Multipliers SPC
per band. That is at least what I have devined from the rules that are
really ambiguous on that point.
http://www.njqrp.org/data/qrphomebrewersprint.html.

Hope everyone finds an interesting activity or two for this weekend and
makes a lot of QSOs. Send me (or post to the reflector) your claimed
score by Wednesday AM and I'll summarize for the reflector.

73,

John, K4BAI.
