Modern shortwave transmitters tend to use
4CX100,000 tubes for the final with a single
driver either 4CX5000 or 4CX3000 size.

Earlier stages are solid state. Am transmitters
as specified are now typicallly solid state. Using
plug in modules about the size of a stereo amplifier
composed of power fets and combining networks. Our
medium wave transmitter has one of these modules for
a driver and 10 more as the main amplifier for 75KW
operation. Its great (Nautel design) because you can
service modules without going off the air, the power is
only reduced.
