It has been demonstrated that the change from 30 to 36 hours has done
nothing to affect the number of stations that are active from DX
locations in the WPX contest.
It is my opinion that this change was made for the few or "the maybes"
like N6TJ (barks a lot about the contest needing to be longer, but never
operates it) and not for the general good of most of the participants.
Question: Are there more guys who care about 36 vs 30 that will actually
go to operate from a DX location than there are guys on the west coast and
midwest that only get about or less than 30 hours of open bands? I say
the latter.
I'm one guy lobbying hard for the return of 30 hours for the WPX !!!
For that matter, I think the ARRL DX contest could do with some mandatory
off times for single-ops. There needs to be one 48 hour contest, and that
needs to be the CQWW. Attitudes will change on this subject. It is just
a matter of time.... errr... age.

lobbying for less time. John is lobbying for more time. I must really be
a sissy or John ages better than me. Probably both.
