Some interesting propagation this morning. About an hour after sunrise
the band suddenly opened up pretty well for about ten minutes, then
went dead again.
The unusual part was working an Arizona station with very strong
signals. Arizona is only a few hundred miles from me and ordinarily
that is way too close, especially when the SFI is as low as it is. It
was probably E-layer skip, but whatever it was it came as a surprise.
E-layer skip normally starts out at about 1500 miles and gets closer
as it gets stronger, but to begin that short is rare indeed.
