I must have missed something. A friend of mine has a TS-480HX and as I
recall, it runs true FSK out of the box. Looking at the manual, it shows pin
8 on the Remote plug on the back as the FSK pin. A simple base loaded NPN
transistor to this pin and ground should setup TTL for you and then use a
USB-RS232 adapter for your computer.
Now if you are purposely using AFSK in LSB mode, there is a way to adjust
that frequency offset - menu 40. In the manual it is used for listening to
CW while in SSB mode.
Good luck with your project !

Subject: Re: [RTTY] New Radio...FSK and all that other stuff.
Everybody has an opinion and I do too. Let's dive into this.
First the New Radio project is on hold for now. I like my TS-480sat
and I probably will get another one next year. Right now I want a 5 watt CW
radio that I can take portable. I like to build kits so that is the route I
am taking.
As for FSK...my issue deals with the fact that my TS-480 does not show my
true transmit frequency when using AFSK on LSB. My transmit is 2.1 Khz
lower. Running True FSK on this radio will fix that. I am purchasing a
RigExpert TI-8 Data and Radio Interface with the matching cable for my
TS-480.
I have used MMTYY and 2 Tone and I really do not have a preference for
either one. I use MMTTY for general RTTY QSO's and for testing.
All this being said...what I have is what I am going to use and MMTTY, 2
Tone and RTTY bandwidth is what it is going to be. All I can do is build the
best I can with my limited resources.
Right now my current project is a new operating desk. Glass top desks are
not the best for that. Ever tried to drill holes in glass? I will make a
new one out of 2 x 4 lumber and Melanine sheets.
RTTY is my primary mode and I build most of my stuff to that end. I am also
a big fan of CW and I use that mode a lot when I am not contesting. I don't
even own a microphone.
I hope you all had a great weekend past and take care.
