Follow up to this....

Not only can you see all of the other digital signals within the bandpass, you can actually see what is being decoded on another part of the screen and that is what makes it assisted. If you just have a band scope, you may be able to see other signals within the bandpass, but you don't necessarily know what information is being exchanged.

It is when you have a program like Fldigi or the SuperSweeper part of DM780
(Part of HRD) with a waterfall that decodes all of the signals within the
bandpass. IOW, you can see all of the RTTY signals (or whatever mode you
happen to be using) all at the same time. To be truly un-assisted, you have
to search for each signal without any such visual assistance.
