In addition to what Ed recommends, another area to check is within the N1MM or N1MM+ program, the Digital Settings.

From the DI1 Setup menu, select Settings. In the upper left is the "General Settings" panel with many checkboxes.

Verify that the "MMTTY - MMVARI Turn AFC On/Off on Run Change" is unchecked. If this is checked, the program will automatically turn AFC on or off, depending upon which mode the program is in (RUN or S&P). If you are not aware of this setting, it can appear AFC has got a mind of its own!

Likewise, you might want to have "MMTTY Send Ham Default on Run to S&P Change" checked. This will reset your tones to the default values which is helpful if you manually engage AFC and don't remember to disengage it when you move off in S&P mode.

While you are in this Setting area, review the other options. You may find some of them to be an advantage during contesting.

Userpara.ini has AFC=1 (turned on), so every time MMTTY is launched, AFC is
turned on, regardless of where you had it set. If you want the default to
be AFC off, then go into userpara.ini and change all instances of AFC=1 to
AFC=0. There is one for each of the 7 profiles.

We are using N1MM+ and MMTTY...

We set up MMTTY with AFC off and 2125/170...

And, then in almost a random occurrence the AFC in MMTTY is turned on
and 2125 is changed to various values...

At the bottom of the N1MM receive window we turn off AFC and click on HAM to
get things back to normal...

All goes well for awhile and then the problem repeats...

We have tried to associate cause and effect over several contests without
anything being obvious to us...

Any help would be appreciated...
