It is with regret that I write that Arthur Blave, ON4BX, became a Silent Key on
February 11, 2014. Well known in Amateur radio circles, he was one of the best
known RTTY contesters and DXers in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Among the RTTY Awards that Arthur earned where:
Winner of the first World RTTY Championship (sponsored by ARI)., CARTG 1965 7th
Place, Volta 1966 2nd Place, CARTG 1967 3rd Place, BARTG 1967 9th Place, BARTG
1968 2nd Place, CARTG 1969 Gold Metal Winner, Giant Flash Contest 1970 2nd
Place, CARTG 1970 8th Place.
In 1971, Arthur was the first Radio Amateur to submit his cards to the DX
Editor of RTTY Journal and achieve the honor of confirming one hundred
countries on RTTY. The ARRL began issuing DXCC certificates on November 1,
1976. Prior to that date, an award for working one hundred countries was only
available via RTTY Journal.
Before retiring in 1995, Arthur was a Professor at the Faculté Polytechnique de
Mons in Mons, Belgium.
