They cannot explain the decision to not open the discussion to the
membership. I imagine they knew they would be establishing a hornets nest
but that begs the question: why proceed when so many will have very
polarized views?

I can accept Kay's comment that the paper stands on its own but she should
at least share in the rationale for the way it was managed.
