Any of the AL-82, AL-1200 or AL-1500. All share the same chassis, control, and
HV power supply, as well as the major RF components.
The AL-82 uses a pair of 3-500 tubes. There are multiple sources and the tubes
are relatively inexpensive at about $150 each.
The AL-1200 uses the 3CX1200A7 tube, which has the advantage of being instant
on. It's only source AFAIK is Eimac and costs $1500.
The AL-1500 uses the 3CX1500 tube. It was used in a number of MRI machines and
has multiple sources. New tubes from Eimac cost $1500; new Chinese tubes can be
found for about $600.
I have an AL-1500 with a Chinese tube and it has worked well for a number of
RTTY contests.

Subject: [RTTY] Amp question
Hi all,
I'd like an opinion on which Ameritron amp (1kw at least) would be best for
heavy RTTY in a contest?
Off list is fine,
Thanks
