Hello Dick...

This sounds like something that is grabbing the CPU attention which in turn suspends your MMTTY decoding. Things that will cause this include virus software, indexing software, and potentially any other software that may be running at the same time.

One method to see what software might be the culprit is to launch the *Windows Task Manger* (Ctrl+Alt+Del). Select the second tab (*Processes*). At the top of that screen you can click the *CPU *column title *TWICE*. This will sort the list according to how much CPU resources are being used, with the highest usage at the top.

Keep the top of this window in view while you are operating. When your system pauses, check this list to see what "*Image Name*" and how much CPU is being consumed. It's normal to see the numbers in the list move around, even when the computer is idle. But if something grabs 90+ percent of your CPU and holds it in synch with your delayed RTTY decoding, post the name of that process here. This will provide a clue to investigate further.

It's normal to see MMTTY using 40% and N1MM using 15% of the CPU while operating. Those CPU numbers will jump around, but the total of the two normally remains less than 80% CPU utilization. These numbers come from my Dell 2-GHz laptop with 1-Gb of RAM running Windows XP sp3.

Hi Guys,
I've only been operating RTTY for about 3 years now and I've still have a
lot to learn. I'd appreciate your tips for getting my CPU to operate
reasonably fast with RTTY as I've tried several different Windows XP and
Windows
7 computers and they'll all operate RTTY fast for awhile... and then
they'll slow down.
Such as, in today's BARTG 75: I'd be decoding and transmitting at an
excellent rate and then after a few minutes, my CPU would lock up while
decoding
and not print for about 10 seconds after his transmission ended. Very
frustrating! Again, this problem is not new but has happened with 5 different
CPU's I've tried over the past 2 years. (4 Windows XP machines and now my
new Windows 7)
By the way, I'm running N1MM and MMTTY. I've tried different radios and different serial cables... but the same
problem over and over: CPU decodes great for awhile and then "locks up" and
prints the information about 10 seconds after it's sent.
All ideas appreciated! Thanks- Dick- K9OM _______________________________________________
