A tip for hams just getting started with sprinting.
Sprint rules say if you call CQ, you are allowed to work only one
station and then you must move at least 1 kHz. This rule is the
beauty of sprinting. You can't sit on a frequency and run stations.
It's a great contest playing-field leveler. Even if your signal is
strong enough to peel the bark off a tree, you can only work one
station per CQ and then you must QSY.
Here's the tip. Call CQ, work someone, move at least 1 kHz, call CQ,
work someone, move at least 1 kHz, repeat until contest ends.
Don't worry about trying to answer CQs. Just call CQ. Using this
technique, you'll work a bunch of people, and you won't be banging
your head against a brick wall trying to beat out other people answering CQs.
Nothing wrong with answering CQs, but it can be frustrating. Try just
CQing and see how it goes.
The first rule of contesting is to have fun--Contest Exuberantly!
