I also do not like the noise of the TPF on the internal ProIII. But If you
hold down the button called "RTTY Fil off/on" you can turn the TPF off in
the menu but still the Icom will leave a very good filter inline and you can
use the internal rtty decoder. I do not hear of too many people using
this.
It is quite a bit better than just being in the rtty mode and using the 250
HZ Filter.

Jim, you REALLY do need to push that RTTY FIL ON/OFF button sometimes.
You won't believe how it will pull a workable QSO out of (apparently)
jumbled up noise!
As Don had written in his early review of the IC-756, this filter does "get
on my nerves" if left running all the time. But that toggle button on my
radio gets a good workout when there are EU openings into my QTH.
