Chen,

The only menu item I see other than the packet display is packet shift.
Each menu has parameters that range -3000 to +3000 hZ. There are no menu
settings indicating packet tone choice like the 1000MP (which I use). It is
my understanding that PKT/LSB is to be active (like the 1KMP) if using the
packet jack for AFSK.

Here is the very strange situation.

When selecting the packet button to enable PKT/LSB (like the 1KMP), we lose
all audio to MMTTY, despite the RX level on the SignaLink at maximum and the
OS (Vista) software settings also set at max. This would be using the CODEC
as the sound card option which is the SignaLink. MMTTY is selected to use
the CODEC for Receive and Transmit.
It's as if the audio on the packet jack is turned off. We have also
increased the level in the menu settings of the FT2K. Still no audio.

We can transmit mark and space tones fine. It just seems to be a problem
with the audio level coming out of the radio on pin-4 of the packet jack
going to the SignaLink when we have PKT/LSB active.
If we select just LSB, the audio level is fine but the pass band is not
centered on the waterfall. Adjusting the shift on the front panel does not
bring it to center either.

We are at an impasse.

Hi Mike and Anthony,

I don't know about the FT-2000, but with the FT-1000MP, there is a Menu Item
called "Packet Tones." You can choose between one of 4 tone pairs. The
tone pairs listed are 200 Hz shift tone pairs, but should be good enough for
the 170 Hz used by RTTY (e.g., the 2110/2310 Hz pair for Packet has the same
center as 2125/2295 Hz for RTTY).

You will need to choose a tone pair that matches the software. For example,
choose 2210/2310 packet pair if your software uses 2125 Hz for Mark (in LSB,
Mark audio tone is the lower of the two tones of the tone pair).

There is also a menu item in the FT-1000MP to set whether you want the VFO
dial to match a Packet cluster spot (i.e., make the VFO readout show the
RTTY Mark frequency). If you use LSB and the 2125/2295 Hz RTTY tone pair,
set the value to -(minus) 2125 Hz.

So, take a look in your manual for something that looks like the two menus
above. The first is critical if you want to use narrow crystal filters but
the second is not critical (unless you operate near the 14100 kHz beacons,
HI HI).
