It's hard for me to justify an external box for $200+ over a multi port
serial card for $10+ just for rtty. RS-232 is fairly simple.
2 serial ports, MMTTY and WL or N1MM and a simple transistor interface for
rtty keying is all I need :-).
Unfortunately RS-232 is hard to die.

Hi John

I have to agree. If someone could tell me the 'advantage' of USB over
serial ports, I'd like to know. I know USB is the wave of the future (till
something else comes along), but why? Maybe I'm missing something.

I purchased a 4-port serial card for my Dell for about $15 and with the 1
built-in port, gives me 5 comports. No external hardware, no special
software, just plug and play. I probably have less than $100 tied up in all
my controllers/cw/ptt/rtty goodies for my 2 radio setup.

I have 3 USB ports on my laptop and had to buy some USB/serial converters.
They work OK for RTTY and rig control, but won't work on CW. I guess I
could buy a WK, but already have a DXD.

Viva la serial port :-) 73
