It's impossible to justify a digital station at a competitive low TX count
station. The rates just wont be good enough.
Once you hit double digits, it makes more sense.
RTTY/digital doesnt have to take away from any band if you have good antenna
separation and isolation. We run 20M on 3 modes simultaneously at W3AO.

I have been very active on rtty since 1975. While I do not want to sound
negative, there are two problems with a full-time rtty station.
1. You take away from the 20 meter station. After all, most rtty is on 20
meters and that is a bread and butter band for ssb/cw.
2. There just isn't enough rtty stations to make it worth while. I did manage
to work 225 stations one year.
I suggest not to leave you 2A category but rather use rtty as a demonstration
mode. Announce it to your group the time your are going to operate rtty and
show it to those who are interested.
I usually check/call CQ at the top of the hour on 14085.00. My radio club
thinks FD is a contest and is always concern about losing point while the rtty
station is operating.
