Thanks to all the folks out there who helped along the way, I found an envelope
in the mail today with a nice certificate for WAS RTTY #677 !
I got back into the hobby on HF in 2007 after a long hiatus, and found a whole
new world out there with all the new digital modes. RTTY has always been a
favorite mode of mine - I can fondly remember many Sunday afternoons spent
copying RTTY art being sent by WA0CKY and others on my old Model 19 and 28
machines.
This time around, I set a goal to work all states on RTTY with just a bare
bones radio and wire antennas. Most of my contacts were made at 50 watts into
either a G5RV at 30 feet or an Inverted Vee at 40 feet. Progress was slow, but
all the contesters out there who faithfully upload their logs to LOTW made it
possible. My final state, Vermont, was confirmed by a short contact with K1LPS
on a Thursday evening on 80 meters. I think the new 'Triple Play' award helped
to boost activity even outside of the contests, and that's what helped me find
Larry on the air that night.
Thanks again, and I look forward to meeting you all on the air again in future
activities!
