Excellent Choice...of course I am bias.  I have the standard 2.7 SSB filter and
the 5 pole 500 Hz filter.  Remember, these are roofing filters...not IF
filters.  So, with that in mind, I had no trouble on rtty using the 500 Hz
filter and using the width control on the DSP to narrow the bandpass.  I did
not have all that much trouble - although there were times when close in
station which were loud would activate the AGC.  Of course the is all variable
and at the time I did not want to bother to make the change.  I think the 250
would be way to sharp for RTTY .. and the least I would go would be th 400 Hz
filter.  That would be good for RTTY and CW...of course you would have to use
the DSP.

Wayner and Erik...the founders of Elecraft...already know some of the issues
surrounding RTTY RX from this past contest.  Many of the guys who own K3s have
expressed a need for a "fine" position on the width and shift controls when
going to the narrow bandpasses and where the shift needs to be moved just a few
Hz.  That is cool about the radio and the company...they update the software
alot.  It is easy to do too.  They make bug fixes quickly and keep putting in
more and more features.

You would not regret the purchase.

I'm considering purchasing a K3. Which filter do I want for RTTY (both
DX & contesting)? 200 Hz 5-pole or 250 Hz 8-pole? Or is there some
other configuration I should consider?
