It's interesting that Feb 2009 is similar to Feb 1953, in that Feb 20
is on Friday. I guess that's not a good time for an operating event,
since it would start at midnight on Thursday night and run all day
Friday. No doubt FCC didn't care whether it was a good night when
they set the date.
If you want to re-create the original excitement, note that FSK
became legal at midnight local time on 20 Feb 1953 - so the East
Coast got first crack at it, and the time zones to the west could
only listen until their time came around. By the time W6 got on the
air it was 3AM on the East Coast; and of course the W2s who could
stayed up to make their first W6 RTTY QSOs.
