No, no! You are gettng too close to going too far. You can never come to
agreement if you try to set any standards other than using a real teletype
machine. I don't consider myself to be a true RTTY Old Timer since my
first machine, 7/8s of a Model 19 was only obtained in 1972. But I had
built my first terminal unit ten years before that. Yes it had tubes but I
could say that if you hadn't bought your toroids from Elliot Buchanan and
you hadn't built a TU in a polar relay can you really aren't a true blue
RTTY person. But that would be silly. While I now own an ST-6 built by
HAL my first one was mostly home brew since I bought only bare boards. And
I would object strenuously to the tube requirement even though I must have
at least four tube type TUs around here. I would put being able to set a
governed motor properly with a tuning fork ahead of that. And how could
you possibly set up a machine without a fox box?

Oh, I almost forgot. How can you possibly enjoy teletype if you can't type
faster than 60 wpm so you can experience the resistance of the machine
against your fingers?

No, keep it simple. Just use a real mechanical machine and don't worry
about it being a Model 14, 19,26, or 28 or some other more exotic creation!
