This year I had great fun during the RU contest. At this station I found all
the bands were almost free of noise at times, well maybe 10 meters was too
quiet with no activity at all. For the first time ever I actually heard a
couple of JA stations on 40 meters, print was poor and my attempt to work
them on low power netted no joy. I am really looking forward to working
this contest at the peak of the solar cycle. In the meantime, next for me on
my station to-do list is to sort an antenna on 40 meters, then maybe, just
maybe I can work those JA fellows.
It seemed to me that there were lots of new calls to be printed. There were
a few odd contest exchanges from a some of them. The most annoying ones
seems to come at me during CQ runs, where right from nowhere I would get a
call and an exchange at the same time. Sort of catches a fellow off guard
when that happens. For the most part I think many of the newcomers took the
time to read the 'mail' and set up efficient macros. Thanks for that guys,
it really does make contesting much more fun with quick snappy mac's.
Sorry to read that a couple of the fellows bumped into some 'jerks' on the
band. I don't think we can blame any one mode for bad behaviour, it seems
these knuckle dragging idiots only know how to hook a piece of wire to a rig
and waste electrons during a contest, any contest. Too bad they can't hooked
up a rig to make a real contact. Oh well, their dime and hydro and I like
most of the gentlemen here won't waste RF on them.
Very happy with my score this year, though I may have messed up the exchange
with a ZL that happened to be a multiplier. I had to ask for a repeat and
for what ever reason I think I mistyped the repeat and logged it wrong. It
was not until after the contest I realized my error.
Look for my log on LoTW soon, for those in to QSL cards not a problem,
bureau please.
Thanks for the Q's,
Eric - VE3GSI
