I have a friend who is an avvid cw contester, and he operates in the low
power class. He's upset over the recent band changes on 80 meters that
squeezes us altogether, I think like a lot of us our. His opinion of Rtty
contesters is that we don't listen, and he doesn't see any skill in it and
that we are just like people in an internet chat room. He said there are way
too many Rtty contests now because anybody with a pc and a sound card can
get on.
I try to express the fact that there is a lot more to it then that, and due
to tight filtering, maybe we do transmit on top of them sometimes due to the
tight filtering and try to assure him that must be the problem. and Rtty
contesters aren't going to intentionally going to interfere with him or any
other cw operator. I work some of the cw contest, but I'll have to admit
that 30 wpm cw is tough for me. I can't do voice contest very well anymore
due to a 3 year voice problem that the doctors have pretty much gave up on,
so I have joined the ranks of Rtty contesting also. I'm not all that great
at it either, but I do what I can.
Is his opinion of Rtty contesters common, or does he just not understand
that there is indeed a lot more to Rtty Contesting then just reading it off
a screen? I don't ever see him changing his mind, so should I just bite my
tongue and let it go in one ear and out the other?
