Now, that was fun. I only got on for a little more than 6 hours, but sure
kept me busy. It was just too nice of a day to stay inside and play radio.
It was good to see 10 open for a while today. I was listening before the
contest and there were quite a few stations on.
Conditions seemed pretty good here. Even managed to sneak in a couple of DX
contacts. Worked OH8JT, and one that really through me, 5F50KD. N1MM says
that one is in Morroco. Anybody else work him??
Forty meters is just a bust here at my QTH until it gets dark. I can hear
stations calling, and they CQ right in my face. I called a whole lot more
stations than I worked. Once night settled in, I even managed to find a
hole and get a small run going. Kinda hard with 50 watts.
The power thing is kind of an issue with me. Unless you have a 200 watt
radio, it is hard to run with 100 watts. My FT-450SAT puts out about 95
watts full bore, and I can't do that 100% of the time while CQ'ing. I have
to crank the power way back to keep the radio from going up in smoke. I can
run the full power when S&P, but not when running. I sometime wish I could
(I DIDN'T)
switch the amp on and crank everything down to 100 watts. Then the '450
would be happy and my SB-200 would be happy. This whole contest is kind of
an honor thing anyway. If people are going to run more than 100 watts, they
will.
Anyway, other than that, I appreciate the NCJ guys putting this contest on
as it is a blast!! 73
