It is likely that tone frequencies in your friend's Mark V Field
do not correspond to the tones in his receive software.

Demodulator: Mark 2125 Hz Shift 170 Hz
AFC: AFC OFF (not checked) FSK Selected
FT-1000MP/Mark V Field:
6-0 rttY-SHF 170
6-1 rtty-PoL rEvErSE
6-2 rttY-ton Hi tonE
6-2 rtY-FdSP oFFSEt
If he is using low tones (menu 6-2) MMTTY Mark should be 1275.
