Get rid of Winlink? You have to be kidding.
I also am a victim of these stupid machines. They come on the air
without notice and they do not care if you are there trying to work your
neighbor or that rare DX country.
I have written literally hundreds of emails to my ARRL Section
leadership, the ARRL and the manufacturer of the equipment. I carefully
documented the interference I have experienced in the emails I sent. It
all fell on deaf ears.
Winlink will not go away anytime soon. The ARRL, and several of their
board members, are in bed with the manufacturer of the Winlink
equipment. Many of the members of the ARRL ad-hoc committee that
adopted this system were actually the owners, and employees of the
company that makes the Winlink machine. The Great Lakes Division Vice
Director is a big supporter of this system. The ARRL claims this is the
greatest thing to ever come along for ARES/RACES Communications.
Now the ARRL wants to define our frequencies by bandwidth instead of
mode. I believe that they are trying to get this through to absolutely
legitimize the Winlink system. If it goes through, I can see these
machines everywhere on the ham bands.
This is not going to go away anytime soon...if ever.
