There may certainly be exceptions, but I have never personally had a problem
installing and running a second sound device in a recent-vintage machine.
(Where you run into trouble is with the older ISA bus and the manual IRQ
settings).
Once installed, you can choose the "preferred" device (for playback and
record) from the Windows control panel. Some application software will also
let you select a specific device.

I really have to de-activate the motherboard sound card or can I install the
Santa Cruz as a second sound card which is why I ordered it in the first
place? I'm once burned and a little leery so somebody reassure me, please.
