KN4LF Solar Space Weather and Geomagnetic Outlook

During the past eight day period geomagnetic conditions have been quiet
Kp-0, 1, 2 to intermittently unsettled Kp-3. The unsettled conditions have
occurred thanks to a high speed solar stream from small but geoeffective
(Earth facing) Coronal Hole #107.

Daily solar flux and sunspot numbers have fallen back to low levels. As of
Wednesday August 04, 2004 the daily solar flux level stood at 86, 85 and 87
and the daily sunspot number was 42. These numbers should once again begin
rising in 3-4 days.

Solar flaring has been in the C class range with only one visible sunspot
group, #10655 in geo-effective position at S09E03 with a beta-gamma magnetic
configuration. This sunspot group is slowly growing and may produce isolated
M class solar flares. Sunspot group number 10654 is now rotating around the
west limb of the Sun.

Solar and space weather conditions should continue rather quiet through at
least August 07-08, 2004. Then guess what? Sunspot group #10649 once again
rotates around the east limb of the Sun. In it's trip around the far side of
the Sun the sunspot group has held together quite nicely. So after the 08th
we can expect a probable return of major solar flaring and geomagnetic
storming.
