These are not secrets to winning the contest from a top tier operator,
no, they are things I've learned over the years I've played in NAQP RTTY.
Hopefully they will be helpful to newcomers or remind others of things
they might have forgot
Remember every North American State, Province, and Country are points and
a multiplier. Yes, XE, etc is a mult. Enter the name, but there will be
no Sate or Province to enter. With some software you might have to force
the entry. In WriteLog Shift-Enter key works.
Stations on the other 5 Continents are not mults but the count for points
so wok that EU,or SA who calls you or call them.
Mults are just as if not more valuable thanks Qs in the final score. If
you are running and a mult calls that you need on another band, ask them
to QSY to a frequency for the mult. It could also be a mult for them.
If you are searching and pouncing some SO2R stations will QSY (on radio
2) for a mult, but many SO1R stations will not but it is still worth a
try.
Remember to try 40 and 80 early before the bands go too long for the
close in Qs and mults.
Look for back scatter on 10 and maybe 15 to the SE.
If closed check 15 & 10 regularly (maybe every 30 minutes) for an
opening.
Remember only 10 hours operating with breaks of at least 30 minutes.
If inclined you can do 10 hours in a row or break it up with a meal ,
family time, or a rest.
Work as many on your own team on as many bands as you can to maximize
the team score.
Above all else enjoy the contest
