"But, acknowledging that the Earth is not a perfect sphere ( It's squashed at the poles ) but making it a perfect sphere, the radius of the Earth is not 6378 km, but 12756.597 km or 24,902 statute miles. ( and that distance is almost exactly twice the 6378 quoted)" Since when did the "radius" of the earth equal the circumfrence? Now I can believe that the diameter is 12756.597 KM not taking into consideration the flattend poles but the diameter is not the radius. The diameter is exactly 2 times the radius. The circumference is pi time the diameter. so 3.14159 times 12756.597KM = 40075.997KM or 24,907 miles 73 Thom WI8W
