(Calmly) Please don't take the comments made about the viruses personally.
I've done some things thinking I was helping someone prevent the spread of a
previous virus, but there's much more to the scenario. I'm not good at
explaining how some of these viruses copy peoples email addresses and start
auto-mailing themselves out, but believe me, it does happen. Part of the
virus is to invoke panic, and create more internet clogging email by
everyone trying to prevent everyone from getting the virus. Education on
how these viruses propagate is a good defense.
I think it should be said that your efforts were in good faith, and many
people (including myself) are starting to understand how some of these
viruses propagate themselves. It's only natural for people to try and
protect their friends from these viruses, and there's nothing wrong with
that, but understand that there's more to it. Please do not be offended by
an explanation, no matter how good or bad the explanation may be, but as a
step in learning. We're all not email/internet guru's (especially me), but
the people who are guru's are only trying to help.
