Hi Joe,

I got very lucky... A local club was closing out an estate, and this item was listed way at the bottom of the list, and I suspect no one saw it.

The club was asking $300.00, for it. Given it was an estate, I let them know it was worth far more than they were asking for it, and they informed me it would not pass self tests, hence the price...

So I took a chance and bought it. While nothing was broken or damaged, the unit was very far out of calibration... It was failing most of the self tests... The club did not want to deal with having it calibrated, and then selling it.

I mentioned this to a good friend of mine, and he volunteered to calibrate it. He had help from a 2712 collector in one of the Nordic countries, Norway, or Finland, I believe. The fellow, I think living in Norway, had five of these 2712 units which he had gotten working, so he was sort of an expert on this device... I located him via the Tek message board on groups.io. This fellow had also rewritten the manual for calibration, with the newer RF board, which my unit had, so as I said, I got lucky. Anyway-- long story short-- after two months, (we had the unity stripped down to individual boards), and actually going through the process of exercising 6 or 8 the ATT relay sets, plus a pile of other trouble shooting steps, and actions, we finally got the unit calibrated, and it now passes all self tests. It actually appears to be good and working at this point. I have checked it against a calibrated SA.

The insides of the unit look like it just came off the factory line... There is not a speck of dust in it anyplace, save a tiny amount on the HV for the CRT. I have wanted a good SA for decades, but Cheap Ham Syndrome has kept me from buying one...

I do like this unit, and if you can find one that passes the self tests, for a good price, I would encourage you to buy one.

73, and thanks,

Hi Dave...

I have been considering a nice spec analyzer. If I might ask....where did
you get your Techtronics?
Did you purchase new, and if so, how much was it? The one I have been
looking at is on Amazon and is the Siglent Technologies SSA3021X.

Thanks for letting me jump in on the Keurig discussion! (I did change the
subject!)

Subject: [RFI] Keurig Coffee Maker as seen by a Spectrum analyzer...

Hello,

As promised, here is the link to my new Keurig Coffee Maker Classic, as
seen by my new spectrum analyzer. I have been itching for a chance to
use this baby...

https://www.nk7z.net/rfi-snapshots/major-appliance-rfi/

Scroll to the bottom of the page, there you will see the Keurig on/off,
and a shot of the test bed. It is not scientific, nor was it intended
to be... Just an excuse to use the new SA... :)
