Yes, the designed-in MTBF of the average modern frig/freezer is 5 to 6
years. We got 7 out of our first new unit with this house. We replaced it
with a Kitchen Aid about which I've already related the RFI problems and
solution.
Just another note on "shopping" for a relatively RFI clean unit: We got
our replacement at Best Buy. You can take an AM radio with you, but it
won't do any good. None of the units on display and for sale (from a
warehouse) are plugged in and are not operating. Just go with the one your
wife likes and deal with the RFI once it's installed in your home.
You gotta thank our useless FCC for exempting home appliances from any
rules and regulations regarding EMC/RFI.
