The last time I had my electrician in here to pull wire etc., (we
always have lively conversations), AFCIs came up. My house is too old
to have them but I have GFIs. Those are enough of a PITA. Anyway, he
told me in most cases the need for AFCIs is BS. It has to do with
stuff like curtains catching on fire with a vacuum cleaner or
something, one of those over reactions by bureaucrats to a tiny number
of incidents. But now, I guess they are required in new construction.
He told me if any cause a problem, replace them with regular outlets.
Save the ACFIs and put them back in before selling the house. They
just sound like nanny state overkill to me.
