For the life of me I don't understand this heartburn you have for Amidon.
Because the invented part number prevents hams from knowing what these
products are, prevented them from buying from industrial sources. They
were presented as Amidon parts, and many hams still believe that they
are. One of my contributions to ham radio has been to take the mystery
out of it. Some of the real part numbers are in the Handbook, and have
been on my website for more than ten years. As a result, hams can buy
these parts from other vendors, including some ham vendors, at far
smaller markups.
When I'm buying a spark plug, I know it's a spark plug and what it does,
and I can run down to the store and buy them.
