My son recently bought a house and he put in one of those super energy
efficient HVAC systems, the kind that uses 3" PVC pipe in place of a chimney.
Wow what a mistake! The system won't run when it is windy or humid. After the
initial warranty, he has had to pay for replacement controller, sensors, fans,
etc.
Any cost savings on energy have been 10x over-run with service and maintenance
costs, plus the discomfort when the thing is in one of several "protect" modes
( too windy or too humid to operate ).
Also, a "tank-less hot water system". Worked great at first, but the system
soon limed up which was not covered by warranty. The system cost three times
what a conventional hot water heater would cost.
All this high tech stuff isn't always what it is cracked up to be!

Subject: [RFI] RFI experience with Trane HVAC units?
I’m getting ready to purchase a new Trane HVAC system for my house, and I want
make sure I’m not going to be introducing any nasty RFI. I’ve been quoted for
the XT95 single stage furnace and for the S9V2 variable speed furnace, along
with an XR16 heat pump (a duel fuel system). From reading the archives, it
looks like many (most?) RFI problems have come from the variable speed units.
Does anybody have any RFI experience - either way - with the Trane XT95/XR16
system?
Thanks and 73,
Rob K4OV
