All:
Just a quick update on my solar panel RFI case:
Solar City, the solar panel installer, met with the solar panel
manufacturer to discuss ways to fix the solar panel RFI emanating from
my neighbors installation.
The installer proposed using the remedies cited in Tony Brock-Fishers
QST article which involves the installation of ferrite cores to all
solar panel leads. The manufacturer, Solar Edge, insisted on installing
their DC line filter instead which they say has resolved RFI issues in
the past.
Mr. Fisher and others believe that the filter will not suppress the RFI
emanating from the power optimizers which is where the ferrite cores
come in.
I should mention that the power optimzers energize during the day and
then de-energized at night which is why the noise comes on at sunrise
and disappears after sundown.
If anyone is interested, I've have a couple of screenshots that show
what a portion of HF spectrum looks like when the opimizers are active
during the day and another at night when the optimizers de-energize.
I'll post an update once the Solar Edge filter is installed.
