To replace 11 2 tube, 8' fixtures would take 22 4' fixtures At $40 each
= $880, plus the rewiring (all in surface mount conduit) , unless I
could get 8' LED replacements. If I didn't drop a decimal, at 10,00
lumens per fixture that's 110,000 Lumens at a current 1650 Watts (full
spectrum) for the shop
The shop well insulated and is heated and air conditioned. It really
needs both. (programmable thermostat)

An easy fix, at least for me was to replace the entire fixture with a Home
Depot 4' Led fixture for $40. It puts out more light than the existing two
40W tube fluorescent fixtures. And no problem putting out bright light in my
garage in cold winter where the standard fluorescent fixtures were very dim.
I have not detected any RF noise in the shack from the Led fixtures.
Anyone want 16 used fluorescent fixtures? :-)

I was at a convenience store/gas station a few weeks ago in the bathroom and
looked up and saw those LED T8 replacements. First i had seen. You
could see the individual LED's in them. I too have some of those
noisy variable voltage input ballasts in my shop. Interested thread.

They've been up there so long I don't remember the ballast specs.
They are about 2 X 1 X 6 inches and heavy.
Sounds like magnetic ballasts.
I had to replace a bunch of magnetic ballasts in my basement; they
were oozing potting material. I discovered that many of them contain
PCBs, which has made safe disposal challenging. The date codes on GE
ballasts will tell you if they contain PCB-insulated capacitors.

These days, if you are replacing ballasts, you might as well get rid of
ballasts all together - Just go to what they call "Direct wired" LED tubes
