It's been a few months since I listened seriously to 80m, but it has sure
turned into a mess while I've been gone. The whooper I heard a couple of
days ago (a cw recording is at www.pvvrc.org/n4zr/80mwhooper.mp3) has been
replaced, at least for the moment, by another noise
(www.pvrc.org/n4zr/80mwhooper2.mp3). This one, also recorded in CW, is
every few hundred hz across the band, mostly below S-meter range but a few,
roughly 5 KHz apart at S3, which on this radio means only about 12 db down
from S9.
Any thoughts on the source? Unfortunately I don't have a portable RX with
a BFO, and it isn't audible on AM.
