And to prove there are no constants in life...I have a Linksys wireless router/switch running at 100-base-T right in my shack with no issues whatsoever. I got it used and never had the Linksys power supply. I am using the 5V from an old exteral 5.25" floppy drive power it.

I have a Linksys switch that creates +40dB hash on every band when it is
powered on, even with no cables plugged into it. It's awful - I put it in
the box and bought a Belkin 5 port switch and it works great, however
100-base-T will create problems. I force all of my ethernet devices to
use 10-base-T and the noise disappears.
