I can rip and replace them in our own place however its another matter
dealing with the the neighbours 1 or 2 houses on either side of us. Man, if

I think this is a well-known noise source. I ran into this at my old house
with some halogen "puck" lights. At the new house, I insisted the builder
put in "real" transformers for all the kitchen undercabinet lights and they
are noise free.
You really can still get transformers made from iron and copper windings,
but they cost a bit more ...
