The MFJ unit looks very interesting. Agreed, it is not the ultimate
for what we may want. But it looks very portable and easy to use.
Finding one noise problem would make it worth the money.
I am going to order the MFJ unit today.

Thanks Jim, K8MR for the tip ....

I am continuously plagued by power line noise problems.
I have used for many years, an old Heath Kit HW17 two meter
AM transceiver. The HW17 has a built in S-meter, so you can use
that along with the sound from the receiver speaker to find the noise.
I use the HW17 along with a 3 element 2 meter yagi.
This works very good.

I power the HW17 from my car's 12v system. Works great. I can
drive around the area and find the poles, substations, buildings,
etc that that power line noise is coming from. I have built up a good
working relationship with the power company. They have confidence
in my reported locations as sources for the power line interferance.
The power company has borrowed this equipment at times when they
have a complaint and had a tuff time locating the source ...

I have seen the HW17 in flea markets many times. I haven't checked
the Internet sites such as Ebay yet, but you may find one there ...
