Martin,
You are correct on all you comments about what you cannot do from the serial
port. However, I prefer commands from the serial port to do nothing other
than what you request. My program remembers all settings from previous
bands. I prefer for the program to send new antenna settings, mode
settings, filters settings, etc. when changing bands from the program. If
the Orion does these things automatically, you get into chaos if the settngs
are different in the program verses the Orion.
