OK, Merle. Frankly, I believe your assessment regarding adjacent
frequency strong signal QRM and I was coming to the same conclusion on
CW I was reluctant to say anything until I did more fiddling and
testing. It probably would be a much more rigorous comparison if I had
the Inrad filters, which most agree are sharper than the stock Yaesus.
Thanks for your input.

Joe,
I am in the process of comparing my new Orion to my FT1000MP. I
predominately operate SSB and mostly DXing. I don't see any measurable
difference in sensitivity, but IMD and selectivity is a whole different
matter. S9+10Db signals 3-5Khz away really hurt the copy of weak signals on
the FT1000MP (I have 8 filters on board). With the Orion, I put on either
the 8 pole optional 2.4KHz filter or the 8 pole optional 1.8 KHZ filter and
the copy is very clean - no "squawks" no AGC pumping! I have more testing to
do. My observed improvements don't have anything to do with "strong local
signals," just strong adjacent signals!

Subject: [Orion] Re: [1000mp] Mark v compared to the Orion
I am in the midst of comparing my vintage MP vs. my Orion, but I am
reluctant to make any final conclusions until I'm confident that I've
mastered the proper use and interactions associated with the AGC and RF
gain settings. My comparisons will be primarily on CW. My preliminary
impressions are that the MP compares quite favorably with the Orion on
sensitivity and copyability of weak CW signals on 30, 40 and 80M.
I haven't really reliably compared selectivity. My MP has all the
available stock Yaesu filters. At this time my subjective sense is that
the Orion may have an edge here, but I don't have any KW signals across
town to contend with.

What are latest results of the comparisons of these two rigs? Have not
