Well, we are setup a bit differently from you, obviously.  We give all
customers a real world ip, this can be terminated either on a single pc, or
on a router if they want to use more than one maching.  This allows them to
do vpn's if they wish, etc.  I don't think I would ever allow customers to
have multiple machines on without a router or nat, just a personal opinion.
