Kevin,
You guys better cook a few of these boards up for everyone to see at WISPCON. Shipping boards that fry in the heat can cause some credibillity problems. I want to buy these. I won't until I am convinced they will be reliable.

Caleb,

The heat issue caused memory to be corrupted and therefore the unit
would fail. It is a PoE issue only, straight power did not seem to
cause the issue. Small percentage is a little harder: My BEST GUESS is
less than 20% of the boards we sold have the issue, and frankly, if you
are in a cooler climate, it will probably not affect you at all. The
issue seemed to cause issues in MO, OK, and TX for the most part.

This is a well known issue, it has been discussed on the lists quite a
bit. I am sorry you feel left in the dark!

Kevin,

What exactly is the "heat issue" and "corruption issue"? Is this a PoE
issue only? voltage related issue only? Please, explain this fully.
Also, is there any way to identify the small "percentage" of boards that
are going to have this issue?

I hate being left in the dark about issues that Karlnet knows about.
(I'm sure there are more known issues than just this one) If there is
an issue, why not inform everyone about the issue instead of keeping it
a big secret and pissing everyone off?

Well, we do use a fan in our indoor enclosure!

But we have solved the heat issue by SPEEDING UP the processor and SLOWING DOWN the memory. The memory was overheating and that apparently caused the corruption issue.

All the boards we are shipping now have been modified to fix this issue. If you have a board that you would like to switch out, we can do

so for you. HOWEVER- the board you get will be a refurbished board. And if you have not yet had heat problems, you may never! Only a percentage of the boards were affected at all.

All,

I thought the word was already out- the heat issue is resolved.
Voltage is still important, as it applies to PoE applications.

I have documents that tell you the actual voltage you will need for
various lengths of CAT5 runs of PoE. Offlist if you want those.

Yes I have seen heat issues w/ the WPBase boards as well, voltage is important and proper heat sinks

mainly heat issues with the WPBase boards..
Or just general lockup problems with them no matter what version of

KN

we

have on it.
The reliability just isn't there with the boards.

I have used the UBICOM units but I hate the fact that you can't get

to

them via the configurator.

We are moving towards Waverider on about all of our new wipops. But

we

will still use KN on our existing KN network.

The kn50 is a ubicom system

Does the radio function any better then the WPBase boards?? We haven't had anything but problems with those boards... Are they using the same radio board or are they a ubicom based

radio?

I recently had a chance to look at the new kn-50 embedded
antennas
setup, and I was very impressed with the entire system, from

hardware,

to software, and onboard speaker with "audio" alignment
