Hi All,

I've been using Karlnet for about a year and I only just now stumbled accross
this mailing list. I've been going through the past threads looking for some
of the problems I've experienced.

I've seen a few posts regarding Karlnet's "support" for Linux. If anyone is
looking for help with the Linux drivers, pay a visit to my FTP site. You will
find RPM's and documentation for getting the Linux TurboCell drivers working.

About me.. I'm managing a small WISP west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The
company I work for, Pathcom Wireless Inc., provides high-speed internet service
in an area of roughly 1000 square miles using 13 base stations (Karlnet SA-4400
on AP-1000). Backhaul from each base station to our fiber gateway is via
various high-bandwidth radios.

I've been using high-power, 23dBm Prism 2.5 based PC Cards sucessfully in
RG-1100's and AP-1000's for a few months now with only one problem that
re-occured a couple of times: overheating. The two brands that I've used are:
Zcomax XI-325HP (Expensive, $179!), Netgate (re-branded Senao) NL-2511CD Plus
Ext2 ($95 from www.netgate.com)

What I could use some help with:

- I was trying to set up a Wi-fi hotspot and wanted to use a high power card.
I was shocked when I discovered that although the AP-1000 with one of the
Netgate cards operates flawlessly when setup as a TurboCell base station, the
AP-1000 will not finish booting when it is set up as an 802.11b compatible
access point!

So far, I've tried to work around the problem by:
- Flashing the Netgate card with 4 different versions of the base & station
functions firmware from Intersil.
- Trying to use one of the Zcomax cards in 802.11b access point mode. (same
problem, AP-1000 will not finish booting)

Anyone have experience with using Prism 2.5 based cards in 802.11b mode?
According to Karlnet release notes for v4.31 firmware, Intersil Prism 2.5 based
cards are supposed to work in both TurboCell and 802.11 mode. See:
